Searching For Suitable University Of Minnesota Off Campus Housing

By Margaret Williams

Most students will need to leave their homes after being accepted by a university and this will mean they have to find accommodation near to their place of study. Most universities will have some student housing but these often get filled up very quickly. If you are searching for suitable university of minnesota off campus housing there are a few things to think about when making your plans.

The first thing you should do is carefully calculate your monthly budget and work out whether the accommodation is going to be affordable. A one bed apartment will cost somewhere around six hundred dollars per month which may include some kitchen appliances and basic furniture. A three bed house will come in at approximately fifteen hundred dollars but you should be mindful that your electricity and water charges will be added to this.

When you are trying to find some accommodation it is a good idea to look at the notice boards that are dotted around the campus. Many will have cards or adverts for vacant student housing in the local area and the details for the landlords or agents. It can also be very useful to speak with others at the university to ask for help, contacts and advice.

Leaving a family home environment can often be a daunting experience and many students struggle to manage their money. A simple way to reduce your costs is to split all bills by taking in a fellow student or a friend. By doing this all of the household expenditure can be shared by the occupying tenants and this will take away some of the pressure.

When you decide take on a rental property is it important to think about what you need. Many of the apartments and houses may be unfurnished so you will need to buy items to make it comfortable. Also bear in mind that as well as the first months rent, the agents will ask for a damage deposit which will be refunded to you at the end of the tenancy, if everything is in good order.

Many larger housing sites that cater for students will have facilities for their tenants to use which are free. Fitness suites, swimming pools and communal areas are offered and free WiFi is usually available. Other facilities such as small cafes and bars maybe available but these will not be included in with your rent payment.

The larger complexes that have houses and apartments are usually near the university and this is a big advantage. It can save you a substantial amount of cash by taking away the need to use costly transport. In a lot of areas a transfer bus is provided to and from the university and this is free of charge.

As well as the financial considerations it is worth taking time to think about how long you will be staying in the rental property. Most agents will expect you to sign up for a six or twelve month contract on most properties. It can often be a good financial move to sign a long term lease as it can bring down the costs if you pay all of the rent well in advance.
